Bob Marley's family has won a case that dealt with his image. A Reno-based company has to pay the heirs at least $300,000 in damages, according to the ruling of a Las Vegas jury on Friday, January 21.

The corporation AVELA and owner Leo Valencia had interfered with the family's business relationships and also took part in unfair competition. They sold T-shirts and other items that advertised Bob Marley's image. These products were sold all around the country in retail locations like Target, Walmart and Wet Seal.

"The verdict sends a clear message to anyone who would challenge the integrity of our father's legacy," said Rohan Marley, the son of Bob Marley, in a written statement.

"Preserving it remains one of our top priorities and we will continue to aggressively pursue legal actions against those who attempt to unfairly profit from his life and legacy."

This case was filed in January 2008 by Fifty-Six Hope Road Music Ltd and Zion Rootswear.
